Terms of Service

1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using BookBeta ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms are a starting template — review with counsel before launch.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use BookBeta. You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep it current.
3. Author Content & Ownership
Authors retain all copyright in manuscripts they upload. By uploading, you grant BookBeta a limited, non-exclusive license to host, display, and transmit your manuscript solely to deliver the Service (e.g. showing it to approved beta readers in the in-app reader).
4. Reader NDA
When a reader applies to a manuscript, they accept an electronic non-disclosure agreement covering that manuscript. Readers may not reproduce, distribute, or publicly discuss the manuscript outside the feedback tools BookBeta provides. Breaches may result in account termination and legal action by the author.
5. Paid Beta Reads
Some authors offer paid beta reads. When an author funds a paid application, funds are held by our payments processor (Stripe). Upon completion the reader receives the agreed amount less a 15% platform fee. Refunds, disputes, and chargebacks follow Stripe's standard policies and BookBeta's internal review.
6. Featured Listings
Authors may purchase Featured placement on the Discover page for a fixed term. Featured placement is non-refundable once the term begins.
7. Prohibited Conduct
You may not upload content that infringes third-party rights, is unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative of minors, or that you do not have the right to share. You may not scrape, reverse-engineer, or attempt to bypass access controls.
8. Account Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law. You may delete your account at any time from your profile.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will achieve any particular outcome for your manuscript.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BookBeta will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-product. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
